Just realized my gutter downspouts were pointing the wrong way for 3 years

I was out clearing leaves last weekend and noticed water was pooling right next to the foundation. Turns out the extensions were aimed toward the house instead of away. Anyone else have a dumb mistake with their gutters that took way too long to spot?

My buddy let his gutters clog for two years and ended up with a flooded basement.

Read somewhere that foundation damage from bad gutter drainage can cost thousands to fix. Bet you're glad you caught it when you did.

Oh man, you're not kidding. I looked up what it would cost to fix a cracked foundation once and almost had a heart attack right there in my kitchen. I think I would've had to sell a kidney to afford it, and I'm pretty attached to both of mine. So yeah, saving a few grand by cleaning out a gutter felt like a big win. Now I just have to hope my DIY fix doesn't fall apart in the next rainstorm. Fingers crossed that my caulking job holds up better than my last attempt at baking bread.
