Just realized my adobe repair hit 12 years and outlasted every stucco patch I paid for

The city inspector quoted me 5 years max on that hand-packed mud job back in 2012, but the 2 neighbors who went with the cheap contractor have already re-done theirs twice, so has anyone else found that the traditional methods beat the modern stuff on these older homes?

The key with the traditional mud is it moves with the house, same as it always has done. Those cheap cement patches are too stiff, so they crack out right where the old and new meet, every single time. You have to match the original mix close enough and wet the edges properly before you pack it in, otherwise you are just wasting your money. Sounds like you got someone who knew what they were doing, and that is worth more than any fast job. Boring but true, the old ways are still the best for this kind of work.
