Found a cheap fix for my swamp cooler leaking through the ceiling

My swamp cooler on my 1950s house in Albuquerque was dripping water down into the living room every time it ran for more than 2 hours. I tried adjusting the float valve twice and even replaced the pan gasket, but nothing worked until I just tilted the whole unit slightly toward the drain side. Has anyone else dealt with a swamp cooler leak that turned out to be a simple leveling issue?

Huh. Little water never hurt a ceiling, did it?

Little water never hurt a ceiling" - man, you must have a different kind of ceiling than I do. My 1950s house has that old plaster and lath stuff, and a little water turns into a big sag in about an hour. I had a swamp cooler drip for two days before I caught it, and the ceiling literally started bowing down so bad I thought it was gonna come crashing on my couch. That dry plaster turns to mush really quick once it gets soaked, and then you're looking at a big repair job. Trust me, it gets serious fast if you ignore it.
