Dropped $600 on a new water heater last month and it failed in 3 weeks
Had to call a plumber anyway after the warranty install leaked all over my garage floor. Anyone else get burned by those big box store "free install" deals?

Check the model number on your old one before you toss it. A lot of those "free install" deals use the cheapest possible units with one year warranties and plastic drain valves that crack. My buddy went through three in six months from one of those chains before he just bought a mid-tier Rheem from a supply house and paid a local guy to put it in. The big stores are counting on you giving up after the first headache.
