DIY drip irrigation vs hand watering, 3 months later and my plants actually survived
I got tired of killing my roses every summer so I set up a cheap drip system from Lowe's for around $60. Hand watering took me 20 minutes a day during the hot months and I still missed spots. The drip kit took one Saturday to install and now I just turn it on once a week. My water bill dropped by about 15 bucks a month too since it's not spraying everywhere. Has anyone else made the switch and noticed their soil stays way more consistent? I'm thinking about adding a timer next but not sure if it's worth the extra cash.

The timer is worth every penny if you travel or forget stuff, I put one on after nearly killing my tomatoes on a weekend trip. Just make sure you get one that lets you adjust how often it runs, because once a week might not cut it during the hottest stretch of July. That consistent moisture thing is real too, my soil stays damp about twice as long as it did with a hose.
