Unpopular opinion: spray foam insulation in attics is overrated for Alberta winters
I spent last January freezing in my house near Calgary even after paying $3,200 to have spray foam done in the attic. Turns out the real problem was air leakage around my windows and the rim joist, not the insulation itself. My neighbor just used blown-in cellulose for half the cost and added sealing strips himself. He's warmer than me this year. Anyone else find spray foam didn't solve their draft issues like they promised?

@paige514 hit the nail on the head honestly. I paid for spray foam and ended up cold AND broker than a joke, guess my installer skipped the prep step. Now I’m the guy shivering in a jacket inside while my neighbor bragging about his caulk strips, real humbling for a guy who thought he was fancy with the pink stuff.

Lol nah I gotta disagree hard on this one. I did spray foam in my attic near Edmonton three winters ago and my heating bill dropped like 40%. The key is you gotta make sure your attic is sealed up proper BEFORE they spray, not after. My guy found gaps around my chimney and plumbing stacks I never would've caught, and the foam sealed everything tight. Sounds like your installer rushed it or didn't do the air sealing prep work right.
