Spent $1,800 on a new furnace in my Red Deer bungalow and it saved my pipes that cold snap
Back in 2019 my old furnace was limping along and I kept putting off the replacement because $1,800 felt like a lot for a house built in the 70s. Then that February cold snap hit and the neighbor's place on the same block had a pipe burst while mine stayed warm, so I finally pulled the trigger that spring. The install took two days and the guy found my old ductwork was half disconnected, which explained why the back bedroom never got warm. Now I keep the thermostat at 20 and my gas bill actually dropped about $30 a month. Curious if anyone around here has done a heat pump swap on these older homes and whether it was worth the up front cost.
