Radiant heat vs. forced air: my 2100 sq ft retrofit gamble
Bought a 1978 bungalow in Leduc last spring and had to pick between ripping out the old furnace or putting in in-floor radiant heat. The quote for radiant was $18,500 with new concrete, forced air was only $9,200. I went with radiant because my wife's feet are always cold, and honestly the running costs are lower so far, about $185 a month in January vs. the $260 my neighbor pays for forced air. But the install took 3 extra weeks and we froze our butts off with space heaters during that stretch. Anyone else made this call and regretted it later when a pipe burst or a thermostat acted up?
