Hit 200 home inspections in Edmonton last week and never expected that number
I do a lot of home inspections around Edmonton and last Friday I crossed the 200 mark. I honestly never thought I'd see that many houses, especially after the first year where I only did like 12. What really surprised me was how many of those homes had outdated knob and tube wiring still hiding in the attic. Has anyone else run into that in older Calgary or Edmonton neighborhoods?

Honestly, the knob and tube thing is way more common than people think. I found it in a 1950s bungalow in Glenora last year, hidden behind some half-assed drywall patch job. The homeowner had no clue. What worked for me was just being super upfront during the walkthrough, pointing out the risks with old insulation touching it and showing them the actual wires in the attic hatch. Saved them a potential fire hazard and they appreciated the honesty.

Did you end up accidentally electrifying yourself showing them the attic hatch? I swear every time I crawl into one of those spaces I look like a frazzled cartoon character coming back out.
