A home inspector's one question got me to stop hating on old plaster

I used to swear any house built before 1980 with plaster walls was a money pit. Then last spring I was at a viewing in St. Albert and this inspector, older guy, ran his hand along a cracked corner and said, "You're not fixing the wall, you're fixing what's behind it." He showed me how the lath was still solid, just the top coat was failing, and that a patch would hold for another 40 years if I did the mesh and mud right. That honestly shifted how I look at every older home on the market now. Anyone else ever had a pro change how they judge a place, or do you still walk away from plaster on sight?
