Switched from wireless sensors to hardwired on the Delgado job in Mesa and I'm not going back
I used to push wireless contacts on every install because pulling wire in finished homes is a pain. Then a customer in Mesa called me back 3 times in 2 months about a zone fault on a window sensor, so I ran 22/4 through the attic instead. Took me 5 extra hours but zero callbacks since, and the panel shows clean loop status every time. Anyone else made the switch after getting burned on battery or RF issues?
The part about the zone fault coming back 3 times in 2 months is what gets me, because that's the real killer on wireless. Sure, a battery swap fixes it once, but if you're rolling a truck out there 3 times you've already lost money on the job, plus the customer starts thinking you sold them junk. My question is what was actually failing on that window, was it just low battery, or was it the RF signal getting blocked or bouncing weird off something in the house? Because if it was RF interference then hardwiring fixes it for good, but if it was just a bad sensor batch you might've spent 5 hours in an attic for nothing. Curious how you decided it was worth pulling wire instead of just swapping the sensor once more.
