Stopped using the meter in wet walls, back to the old way
I used to trust a moisture meter on every damp drywall call, but after the third false trip to a homeowner's basement in Omaha last month I tossed it in the truck. Now I cut a small access hole and feel the stud directly, takes 10 extra minutes but saves me a callback every time. Anyone else ditch the fancy tools for the hands-on check when water damage is involved?

My uncle had a moisture meter that beeped so much we thought it was a Geiger counter, kept telling him his whole basement was radioactive. Turns out the batteries were dying and it was just making noise. He still swears by the old-school way though, feels the wood like he's reading tea leaves.
