Stopped by a supply house in Akron and noticed something neat

I had to pick up some resistors for a panel I'm putting in this weekend, so I ran over to ADI in Akron Wednesday morning. While I was waiting, I saw the installer ahead of me grab a new Honeywell 5800 series transmitter. He showed me how he labels each zone right on the plastic with a sharpie before he even opens the box. That little trick saves him from mixing up sensors on site. Has anyone else found a simple method like that to speed up their installs?

30 zones across three floors and the guy next to me was still using a sharpie on the box. I just stick a piece of blue tape on the back of each sensor and write the zone number there. That way if the sharpie wears off or I drop the box in mud I still know what I'm grabbing.

A buddy of mine who does fire alarm installs swears by writing the zone number on a small piece of colored tape and sticking it right on the cable near the termination point. He says it saves him when the labels fall off or get smudged during rough-in. Might be worth trying if you're already using tape on the sensors.
