Showerthought: I had to choose between a wired keypad or a wireless one for a tricky entryway in a 1920s house.

I went with the wireless unit to avoid damaging the original plaster, and it's been solid for over 6 months now. Has anyone else found a good wireless model that holds up in a spot with thick walls?

You mentioned avoiding damage to the original plaster. I respect that so much. My own house has the fingerprints of my past bad decisions all over it. I once tried to hang a shelf on a plaster wall and created a crater that looked like a small meteor strike. So yeah, wireless was definitely the smarter call.

That meteor strike description is painfully accurate. My own plaster walls seem to hold a grudge against any drill bit that comes near them. It's like they're made of compacted dust and old regrets.

How big was this crater, exactly?
