PSA: A job in a 100 year old building downtown taught me to always check for plaster walls before drilling.

What did you hit behind the plaster?

Ugh, plaster is the worst. It's not just pipes or wires back there. In really old places, you can hit a whole mess of rock lath or even metal mesh that just shreds your drill bit. A stud finder is useless on those walls. You basically have to go in by hand and hope for the best.

Plaster walls have way more character than drywall though, they just need a different approach. A good masonry bit and some patience goes a long way, it's not that hard. People forget how solid those old walls are, they last forever. Calling them the worst is a bit much when you get a way better finished look.
