Overheard a customer say my panel was ugly behind their new white couch

I was swapping out a DSC panel last Tuesday in a newer house in Phoenix. The homeowner kept looking at it and said 'can you put that somewhere else, it's ruining the whole room.' Made me think about how we just slap these things up without asking where the furniture goes. Now I ask clients about their layout before I drill anything. Anyone else run into homeowners caring about how the panel looks?

You ever ask them where they want it before you start drilling? Last year I had a client who wanted their panel hidden behind a painting, so I ran the wires through the wall and mounted it behind a removable picture frame. They were way happier with that than staring at a gray box every day.

Honestly that's a slick move with the painting. I did something similar last year where the homeowner wanted everything clean, so I went with a flush mount panel cover that matched the wall color and trim. Took a little extra time but they loved not having a clunky box sticking out.
