My boss said to always check the attic for old wires before running new ones

I was doing a job in a 1970s house last month and almost skipped it, but I found a whole nest of live knob and tube up there. It was still hooked to the main panel, which would have fried my new alarm panel for sure. Saved me a huge headache and a call back. Has anyone else found something wild in an attic that changed their install plan?

Glad you checked, but knob and tube is rarely still live by code. It's usually dead and abandoned up there.

Man, that's a good reminder. I mean, it's crazy how often the old way of doing things is just still there, working under the surface. Makes you double check everything.
