Just read that the first commercial burglar alarm was patented in 1853... for a bank in Boston.
Found it in an old trade magazine my boss keeps in the shop. Makes you think about how much the core idea hasn't changed, even if the tech has... anyone else come across a weird bit of industry history lately?

Honestly that's how a lot of stuff is. The basic problem stays the same, we just keep finding new ways to solve it. Tbh it makes me wonder what we're doing now that'll look ancient in a hundred years.

Yeah that "ancient in a hundred years" part is wild to think about. I bet our whole internet and phone setup will seem like cave drawings. Like, we'll probably look back at charging cables and typing and just laugh.

Wait, 1853? That's before the Civil War. Someone was trying to trip wires in a bank vault while people were still using horses.
