I bought a cheap wire toner online and it cost me a whole afternoon
Got this thing called the 'EZ-Tone Pro' for like 40 bucks, thinking it would save me time tracing lines in an old apartment building. The tone was so weak I couldn't pick it up through a single wall. Ended up having to pull new wire for three zones, which took about five hours of extra work. Anyone have a toner they actually trust for thick plaster walls?

Forty bucks for a tone that can't go through a wall. That's brutal. jakep24 is right, you need the heavy gear for plaster. My old Fluke could find a wire in a foot of concrete.

Yeah those cheap ones are basically useless in old buildings. I mean the Fluke Pro3000 is the only one that's ever worked for me on plaster.
