Had a 3 year old DSC panel fail on me last Friday in Phoenix

Was doing a routine service call on a system I installed back in 2021. The homeowner said the keypad was beeping randomly at 3am. Got there, figured it was a low battery or a bad zone. Nope. The main board just decided to die. No power surge, no water damage, nothing. Just dead. Had to swap the whole panel out on a Saturday morning. Anyone else seeing these panels crap out way sooner than they used to?

Man, that's rough. I feel for you having to deal with that on a Saturday morning, especially in Phoenix heat. I've been seeing more of these random main board deaths on panels that are only a few years old, and it's got me scratching my head too. My gut says they might have cheapened out on some components or changed their manufacturing process sometime around 2020 or 2021. Could be a bad batch of capacitors or something, but it's hard to know for sure without digging into a dead board. Either way, it's a pain when a system you put in yourself goes down like that.

Yeah, it's happening everywhere now. I see it with appliances too, fridges and washing machines dying after three years when the old ones ran for fifteen. Feels like they're building everything to hit a price point instead of lasting.
