Found a nest of mice chewed through a zone wire behind a drop ceiling in an old office building downtown

Took me three hours to trace the break because the panel was in a locked closet with no light. Has anyone else had to deal with rodent damage in commercial drops?

Heard a similar story from a buddy who does commercial HVAC work. Said he spent a whole afternoon in a drop ceiling chasing a short, turned out a mouse had chewed through three wires at once. The nesting material alone can cause fires if it gets packed in there, especially in old buildings with dusty insulation. I've also seen where they crawl into the panel boxes themselves and pee on the terminals, causing corrosion over time. Three hours is rough but at least you found it before the short caused a bigger problem.

The mouse pee thing is wild. I never would have thought of that.

Totally feel you on that. I mean, three hours is a long time but at least you caught the problem before it got way worse. I've seen corrosion cause all kinds of weird shorts in old junction boxes from stuff like that. It's wild how something so small can cause so much trouble. Glad you figured it out and nothing major happened.
