Appreciation post: my boss told me to always carry a small bag of zip ties
He said, 'You'll use them more than your screwdriver, trust me.' I didn't believe him until a job last week where a motion sensor wire kept sagging behind a client's bookshelf. I had no way to secure it cleanly without drilling new holes, which the owner didn't want. Pulled out a zip tie from my bag, looped it around an existing conduit, and had it neat in under a minute. What's one simple thing you were told to always carry that saved a job?

Carry both sizes like @fisher.casey asked, the small ones get used way more.

What kind of zip ties do you carry, the little ones or the big heavy duty ones?

That's a good question from Casey. Noah's right about the small ones getting more daily use, but it depends what you're fixing. Are you looking at general quick repairs, or do you need something to hold real weight, like a broken backpack strap versus a wobbly cart? The big ones are a specialty item you might not need every day.
