Watched two guys torque a prop bolt at a hangar in Wichita with no lube on the threads, right after the manual said dry
I was at a hangar in Wichita last month getting a sign-off on a 172 and overheard two guys arguing about whether to oil the prop bolts. One of them put a little grease on and the other said the maintenance manual calls for clean dry threads on that nut. That matters because wet threads torque different than dry ones and you can end up under or over the spec without knowing it. How many of you have seen a guy grease first because it just felt right?
