Saw something at the Denver airport that made me shake my head

I was picking up a buddy from the terminal last week and walked past a ground crew working on a 737. One guy was using a regular old crescent wrench on a panel bolt, the kind you'd find in any garage. I mean, come on, that's a 1/4 turn fastener, right? It's not like the right tool is hard to find. How do you even get through A&P school and think that's okay? Has anyone else seen stuff like this at other airports?

My buddy who works line maintenance in Phoenix told me a similar story. He saw a guy trying to adjust a flap track with a pair of pliers and a hammer because his ratchet was broken. They had a whole tool crib fifty feet away! He just shook his head and walked over to get the guy the right socket.

Yeah, that tracks with what @mark731 said. Some people just refuse to walk to the tool crib even when it's right there.

Probably faster to walk than mess with a broken tool anyway.
