Rant: spent 3 years pulling cotter pins with the wrong pliers, a $9 tool changed my whole day
Used to fight every cotter pin with a pair of needle nose that kept slipping off the head, usually after 20 minutes of cussing on a wheel change in the hangar at Van Nuys. Last spring an old guy in the next bay handed me his side cutters and just said "squeeze and pull," and the pin came out in about 4 seconds. Turns out the flat jaw grabs both legs at once and the pin folds instead of fighting back. Now I keep a dedicated pair in my box and I'm not going back to the needle nose. What's the one cheap tool that made you feel dumb for waiting so long?
