Pro tip: My aircraft manual fixed a cousin's tool problem
I was replacing O-rings on a landing gear system, sticking to the service bulletin. It dawned on me that my cousin never returns my wrenches after borrowing them for his bike. So I made a sign-out log, similar to our parts tracking system. He hasn't lost a single tool since, and we talk less about missing gear.

Borrowed tools becoming permanent donations is a universal struggle. Applying a formal check-out system to personal gear is a smart fix. It removes the temptation to leave things lying around at their place. Having that simple log really does cut down on the awkward conversations.

Yeah, I just started putting my name on everything with a paint marker. Works like magic, people suddenly remember where stuff came from.

It's amazing how a little ownership marking changes behavior. People treat stuff with a name on it completely different, like it's suddenly real property. That paint marker is basically a low-tech force field.
