Noticing a pattern in wear marks solved my grip issue

I kept having trouble with my hand tools slipping during long jobs. Then I saw the wear marks were always in the same spot, so I adjusted my grip. This helped a lot with comfort and speed.

Man, that's such a smart way to figure it out. I've done the same thing with a couple old chisels. The metal gets all shiny where your hand actually goes, not where you thought it was going. Paying attention to that wear makes you change your whole grip without even thinking too hard. It feels wrong for a minute, then your hand just stops hurting. Such a simple fix that most people never notice.

But is the hand pain really that bad for most people? I've used plenty of worn tools and never really noticed anything beyond some minor discomfort. It feels like maybe we're overthinking a problem that isn't there for the average weekend project.
