Just realized the 'bird strike' I spent an hour looking for was actually a kid's foam dart from the ramp crew

I mean, I was crawling around the engine inlet for a solid hour on a hot tarmac in Dallas last Tuesday before I found the thing, so has anyone else had a false alarm that turned out to be something totally ridiculous?

Man, that's brutal! Honestly, I've started giving anything that looks like debris a quick visual from a few angles before I go full crawl-in. It saves a lot of time and back pain. You definitely earned your paycheck that day.

Yeah, that "quick visual from a few angles" is key. My buddy Mike skipped that once, crawled under a collapsed shed roof to check a pipe, and a whole nest of wasps fell onto his neck. He came out swinging and screaming, it was a whole thing. He's religious about the look-around now.

Ellis.victor gets it, my cousin had a raccoon jump scare doing that.
