I used to torque every bolt by feel on the old Cessna 172s at our field.

After a new owner bought the operation last year, he made us use calibrated wrenches on everything, even simple panel screws. It feels like it adds an hour to every job, and my boss in Tulsa says it's non-negotiable now. Do you guys think this level of strictness is becoming the new normal everywhere?

You ever think maybe that old way was just LUCKY it worked out? A plane coming apart is way worse than losing an hour.

Lucky it worked out" feels like a stretch for panel screws. That's just basic stuff you do by feel after a while. The new rules seem like they're solving a problem that wasn't really there.

Saw a report where they found loose screws on like 8 out of 10 planes they checked after old-style work. Maybe the problem was bigger than we knew.
