Found a stripped screw on a Cessna 172's cowling last month in Tucson

It was on the lower left panel, one of those tiny Phillips heads. I grabbed a rubber band, laid it over the screw head, and pushed the driver down hard through it. The rubber filled the stripped part just enough to get a grip. Got it out without having to drill, which saved me about an hour on the job. Anyone have a different go-to trick for this?

Rubber band trick is solid! I've also had luck with a tiny dab of valve grinding compound on the screwdriver tip, gives it crazy grip.

That valve grinding compound trick is no joke. My buddy had a stripped screw on his old motorcycle carburetor, a real nightmare. He put a tiny bit on the tip of a flathead, just like you said. It bit right in and he got the screw out first try. He said it felt like the screwdriver was welded to the screw head.

Heard somewhere you can also use a bit of super glue on the screwdriver tip for stripped screws. Let it dry and it gives you a solid grip too.
