Dropped $220 on a "lifetime" torque wrench that failed calibration in 4 months
Last October I picked up a torque wrench off one of those tool truck deals because the guy swore it was lifetime warranty and dead accurate. $220 out the door. I used it on maybe 15 jobs, mostly prop bolts and landing gear hardware, nothing crazy. Took it in for its first calibration check at the shop last month and it was reading 12 percent low at 150 ft-lbs. Twelve percent. On prop bolts. I called the company and they told me "lifetime" only covers the head breaking off, not accuracy, so calibration and repair was on me at $90 plus shipping. My old $60 beam wrench from a pawn shop in Fresno still reads dead on after 3 years. Has anyone found a brand that actually holds torque and honors the warranty, or am I better off just buying cheap and re-checking every 6 months?
