Chased a fuel leak for 2 days, turned out to be a $3 O-ring I laughed at
Last month at the hangar in Tulsa, we had a 737 coming in with a persistent fuel seep near the wing root. My lead swore it was the main line fitting, so we tore that apart twice, replaced a gasket, torqued everything to spec. Still weeping. Third day I finally grabbed the little O-ring pack the older guy on nights kept leaving on the bench, swapped it out on the smaller access port, dry as a bone. I used to roll my eyes at guys who hoard those tiny rubber parts, but now I keep a few in my box. Anyone else had a silly little part waste more time than the big stuff? What's your 'that can't be it' item that ended up being the whole problem?
