A lead in Dallas told me my torque checks were backwards and I argued with him for 20 minutes
Last month I was doing a wing panel job on a King Air at a shop near Love Field in Dallas and the lead walked over and watched me run a torque check. He told me I was going from the middle of the bolt pattern outward, which he said is backwards and can load the panel unevenly. I told him I had done it that way at two other shops and never had a comeback, and we went back and forth for 20 minutes in front of everybody. He pulled out the manual and showed me the sequence calls for working from the outer bolts inward in a star pattern for that panel. I swallowed it and redid the whole thing his way, and when I checked the values again 4 of them had moved compared to my first pass. Now I do the star pattern from the outside in on every panel job and write the sequence on my glove so I do not fall back into old habits. What torque sequences do you all follow on panels, and did anyone else learn it a different way than the book says?
