PSA: Watch your air fryer basket coating after 2 years of use

I bought my air fryer back in June 2021 from a big box store in Nashville. It worked great until last week when I noticed little black flakes on my french fries. At first I thought it was just burnt food, but then I saw the nonstick coating was peeling off in the basket. I checked online and found out this happens a lot after 18-24 months of regular use. Those flakes are basically Teflon, and you don't want to be eating that stuff. I ended up throwing the whole thing out and getting a stainless steel basket model from a local kitchen shop. Has anyone else had this happen with their air fryer?

Did you figure out what brand was in the coating before you tossed it?

Yeah I mean I get where you're coming from @laurabennett but honestly I don't think it really matters what brand it was. The whole point is that the coating was clearly doing something weird and unappealing regardless of who made it. Chances are any coating that looks like that fresh out of the box is gonna have similar issues no matter what label is on it. I've seen this happen with a few different brands over the years and it's almost always a sign of either bad storage or a cheap ingredient. You could probably trace it back to the supplier they all use anyway if you really wanted to dig into it.
