Hot take: my air fryer basket warped after I soaked it in the sink overnight
Two weeks ago I left my air fryer basket soaking in the sink overnight after making buffalo wings, thinking it would make cleanup easier the next morning. When I pulled it out, the nonstick coating had a bubbly patch near the handle and the whole tray sat crooked in the drawer. I ran a batch of frozen fries at 400 for 12 minutes and they cooked so uneven that half were burnt and half were still pale. Now I hand wash it within an hour with warm water and a soft sponge, and the wings have been fine since. Has this happened to anyone else, and did you just live with the warp or toss the whole unit?
Yikes, but honestly the overnight soak is not the villain here. Most nonstick air fryer baskets are just thin stamped metal with a cheap coating, and buffalo wing sauce is acidic and salty, so that combo sitting for hours eats into the finish way faster than plain water ever would. The warp probably came from the tray going from a hot oven straight into cool sink water, not from the soak itself. That bubbly patch near the handle is a clue, that is where sauce pools and where the coating is thinnest. So yeah, hand washing fast is smart, but blaming the soak alone feels like letting the cheap build quality off the hook.
