Can we talk about the guy at the Baton Rouge flea market who told me to stop shaking my air fryer basket?
I was at the flea market off Airline Highway last month and this older guy selling old kitchen stuff saw me talking about my air fryer. He told me to quit shaking the basket halfway through and just flip stuff once with tongs instead. I tried it on a batch of frozen wings at 380 for 22 minutes and the skin came out way crispier on both sides, no weird soggy spots. My old method of shaking every 7 minutes was basically steaming the bottom layer and I never put that together. He also said to preheat for 3 minutes even if the manual says you don't have to, which sounds like nonsense but my fries got way better. Chips and tots seem to be the exception though, those still want a shake. What do you all do for chicken thighs, flip or shake?
So some random guy at a flea market says one thing and now we're all supposed to change how we cook? Preheating an air fryer for 3 minutes when the manual says you don't need to just adds time and power for maybe a slightly better result. I'll flip thighs if I remember, but acting like shaking the basket is some huge mistake feels like a lot of fuss over chicken wings.
