Why does nobody talk about how AI image generators mess up text every single time?

I tried generating a sign for my Etsy shop mockup and "OPEN" came out as "OP3N" with garbage letters around it, so I told the tool to fix it and it just changed the background to a dumpster fire - guess I'm learning Photoshop instead.

Is it just me or does it feel like these AI tools are designed to be deliberately unhelpful with text? @wren806, your buddy's "M3TA1" story reminds me of when I tried to make a simple "Garage Sale" sign for the neighborhood and the AI kept swapping the G for a 6, no matter how many times I corrected it. I ended up just writing it out by hand with a Sharpie, which honestly looked better and only took five minutes.

I had a buddy who tried to make a logo for his band's demo tape and the AI turned "METAL" into "M3TA1" with a glowing sword through it. He spent three hours trying to get a clean version and ended up with a poster that said "M3TA1" in eight different fonts instead. It's basically a running joke now that we just use Paint and call it a day.
