TIL some AI voice cloning tools can mimic a person from just 3 seconds of audio

I saw this demo from a company called Respeecher where they cloned a voice from a 3-second clip and it was scary accurate. Has anyone else messed with these tools and noticed how easy it is to get fooled?

That stuff is wild, I tried one of those demo tools last week and it copied my buddy's voice so perfectly my wife thought I had him on the phone. The creepy part is how it nailed his exact speech patterns and little pauses, not just the tone. Makes you wonder what happens when this tech gets into the wrong hands for prank calls or worse.

Think about how this could mess with evidence in court cases. We already have deepfake video issues, but voice clones from three seconds could change how we prove someone said something. Imagine a voicemail or a recorded phone call where the voice is cloned perfectly, and the person accused has no way to prove it wasn't them. Law enforcement and judges aren't ready for this yet, and by the time they catch up, bad actors could be using it to frame people for crimes they didn't commit.
