Why I stopped setting an alarm for my 20 minute nap, and what happened at 12:45 last Tuesday
Everyone in here keeps saying you need a timer or you'll wreck your whole night, and I just don't buy it for short naps. Last Tuesday I laid down on the couch in my shop's back office around 12:40, no alarm, just told myself I'd get up when my body was done. I woke up at 12:58 on my own, felt fine, and went back to wiring a panel in a better mood than I'd been in all morning. Then two days later I tried the alarm thing again, set it for 20 minutes, and it went off right in the middle of that deep foggy part, so I hit snooze twice and lost 40 minutes and felt awful the rest of the day. Maybe it's just me, but my body seems to know when 15 or 20 minutes is up way better than a beeping phone does. The catch is I only do this when I've got a hard stop, like a job I can't be late for, otherwise I risk the full hour. Has anyone else noticed their natural wake up beats the timer for the short ones, or am I kidding myself?
The "deep foggy part" is exactly where the alarm always gets me too, like it waits for that moment on purpose. My body's natural clock has bailed me out way more than my phone ever has, mostly because my phone doesn't know the difference between dozing and dead-to-the-world. I'm the same way though, no hard stop and suddenly my 20 minute nap is a whole afternoon gone.
