Why does everyone think Goosebumps was only for little kids?

I was on a 90s show page the other day and saw people saying Goosebumps was just baby stuff compared to Are You Afraid of the Dark. But seriously, episodes like 'The Haunted Mask' with that creepy store owner totally had me hiding behind the couch at age 9. How are we gonna act like those monsters weren't legit nightmare fuel for everyone?

Wait, "The Haunted Mask" wasn't enough for people? I remember that episode where the mask literally sticks to her face and starts taking over her personality, that was super unsettling. And what about "The Cuckoo Clock of Doom" where that kid gets stuck reliving his birthday over and over until he doesn't even exist anymore? That's existential horror right there for a 9 year old. Sure, some episodes were goofy, but the monster designs and the creepy music always set the tone. Are You Afraid of the Dark had its own vibe, but Goosebumps was definitely not "just baby stuff.

Oh yeah, "just baby stuff" said someone who clearly never had to sleep with the lights on after the Monster Blood episode. The Cuckoo Clock of Doom messed me up too, but people act like Goosebumps didn't have layers just because it aired earlier in the evening. Guess we just needed a fog machine and a campfire to make it "legit" horror for the grown ups.
