Warning: I saw a rerun of 'Doug' at a friend's house in Cleveland and it made me question the whole 'nostalgia' thing.

Everyone talks about how deep and relatable Doug was, but watching it now, the pacing is SO slow and the jokes just don't land. I was waiting for something, ANYTHING, to happen for like five whole minutes. Does anyone else feel like some shows just don't hold up at all?

Ever try watching with the playback speed turned up a little? I put it on 1.25x for some older cartoons and it helps a ton with that dead air. You still get the story and jokes, just without the painful pauses.

I tried to watch an episode of "Hey Arnold" last year and fell asleep before the football head even left his room. The slow pacing in those 90s cartoons is a real problem now. I get what @abby_palmer means about the animation looking cheap, but for me it's the dead air between lines that kills it. My nostalgia isn't strong enough to sit through ten minutes of Doug just staring at his journal. It makes you wonder what we were all doing with our time back then.

Tried rewatching 'Rugrats' and the animation just looks cheap now, honestly.
