TIL the Rugrats Halloween special hits different at 37
I caught the 'Rugrats' Halloween episode on cable last week and it actually scared me this time around. My kid asked why the babies were crying in the attic and I realized I never noticed how dark the animation gets. Back in '91 I just laughed at Tommy's diaper jokes, but now I see how it plays with fear and trust. Anyone else rewatch old cartoons and find layers they totally missed as a kid?

Honestly that part where they're crying in the attic messed me up too, but what got me was how the babies didn't fully understand what was happening. Do you think the show was trying to teach kids about fear or was it just clever writing for the parents watching?
