The VCR timer trick I used to set for Saturday cartoons
Back in 94 or so, I had every Saturday morning show timed down to the minute on our old VCR. I'd set that timer on Friday night to catch Batman and X-Men, and if I messed up the clock, I'd miss the whole block. Now I just stream everything on my phone whenever I want, no planning at all. What changed for me was getting a tablet in 2016, and suddenly I stopped caring about schedules completely. But honestly, that tiny ritual of setting the timer made the shows feel more special, like I earned them. Does anyone else miss the pressure of recording shows before streaming made it too easy? That anxious check to make sure the red light was on, was it just me?
Man, that red light check was real. I remember standing there staring at the VCR like it owed me money, making sure it was actually blinking and not just mocking me. Streaming is convenient but it definitely killed that little thrill of pulling off the recording, so you're not alone in missing it.
