Spent $80 on a box set of 'Are You Afraid of the Dark?' and it was worth every penny
My kid was having nightmares from some new cartoon, so I dug out my old VHS tapes. They were too worn out to watch. I found a DVD box set online for about eighty bucks. We watched a few episodes together and she loved it, no more bad dreams. What other 90s shows are good for a slightly spooky but fun watch with kids?

Did you ever watch "Goosebumps"? That show had a similar vibe, spooky but not too scary for kids. I read an article a while back that called it a perfect gateway to horror for young viewers. "Eerie, Indiana" was another good one, more weird mystery than outright scary. "So Weird" on Disney was also fun, it felt like a kid-friendly "X-Files".

Totally agree about that gateway horror vibe.

Wait, didn't you used to think old kids shows were too cheesy to hold up? I was the same way until I tried "Goosebumps" with my niece last month. That show is way more clever than I remembered, the monsters are goofy enough to laugh at but still creepy. "Eerie, Indiana" is even better, it has that twilight zone weirdness without being too intense. Honestly, I was wrong to write off these old shows as just nostalgia bait.
