Rewatching Doug as an adult hits different with subtitles on
I mean, I used to watch Doug on Nickelodeon every afternoon after school, sprawled on the carpet with a bowl of cereal. But last week I put it on for background noise while I folded laundry, and I accidentally left the subtitles on. Turns out I missed so many background jokes and tiny visual puns as a kid, like the fake band names on the posters or the signs in the hallways. It's wild how much detail the animators crammed in that we just didn't catch on a CRT TV in 1993. Now I find myself doing this with all my old shows, even the ones I've seen a dozen times. Has anyone else gone back and rewatched something with subtitles and felt like you were watching a whole new show?

Told my buddy Mark about this and he tried it with Rocko's Modern Life. He called me at midnight going off about how the background art has all these hidden adult jokes. He said it was like watching a different cartoon.
