Question about rewatching The Adventures of Pete & Pete as an adult

I mean, I used to think the show was just silly small town stuff, but last month I put on season 1 for my nephew in Austin and it hit me totally different. I spent like 20 years laughing at Artie and never noticed how weird and sad the parents' dynamic is, you know? The episode with the little petunias and the dad just zoning out made me realize I was missing the whole point as a kid. Maybe it's just me but the humor holds up way better than I expected, and the emotional parts land harder now. Anyone else had a 90s show flip meaning for them when they rewatched it as an adult?
