My sister swore by TGIF sitcoms, I swore by Saturday morning cartoons, and one of us was clearly right
So back in like 1996 my sister and I had this huge fight every single Friday night. She wanted to park in front of the TV for the TGIF block, Full House, Family Matters, Step by Step, the whole thing. I wanted to save my TV time for Saturday morning cartoons, and I argued that was the better deal because you got like 4 straight hours instead of just 2. She said her shows had real people and real stories, and I said cartoons had better jokes that grown ups actually wrote for kids instead of laugh tracks telling you when to chuckle. We finally made a bet in our living room in Akron, one week of each, and whoever laughed more won. Saturday morning destroyed TGIF, 9 real laughs to 3, and I counted. Looking back I think the real difference was that cartoons packed in way more silly stuff per minute while sitcoms had to stop for the audience clapping every 10 seconds. Still think about that dumb bet every time I see a Full House rerun. Did anyone else have a TV war with a sibling, and which side won at your house?
