My cousin swore we were too old for Recess when I was 12. He was wrong.

Back in 1998, my older cousin told me I should stop watching Recess because I was in middle school now and it was for little kids. I actually listened to him and missed like half the season. Years later I caught reruns and realized that show had way more depth than I gave it credit for. The episode where they fight the corrupt school lunch system still holds up. Anyone else have someone talk you out of a show you actually liked?

Oh man, that hits close to home. I mean, it's wild how quick people are to tell you you're too old for something you genuinely enjoy. Idk why but it feels like there's this weird pressure to grow up fast, like you have to leave behind all the fun stuff just because you hit a certain age. It's not even just TV shows either, I see it with hobbies and music too. People get shamed for liking what they like because it's not "mature" enough, but honestly who made up those rules? Recess is a good example though, that show was actually smart and had real messages. Maybe it's just me but I think a lot of adults miss out on good stuff because they're scared of looking childish.

And honestly I still carry that shame around like a security blanket I'm too embarrassed to use in public. @roseb62 the pressure to ditch kid stuff is real, I remember hiding my Powerpuff Girls keychain in my locker so nobody would see it. But really, what was the worst that could have happened, someone calls me babyish for enjoying a cartoon about ethical dilemmas and tetherball politics? I'd take that over pretending to care about whatever angsty teen drama was popular at the time. Recess was legit, I'll die on that hill even if it means standing alone with a lunch tray full of imaginary sloppy joes.
