I finally found my old VHS of Rugrats and watched it with my kid last Saturday

So my little one is 5 now and I've been trying to get them into 90s stuff. Dug through a box at my mom's place and found a tape from 1998. Popped it in the old VCR and we watched the whole thing. They actually laughed at the jokes. Made my whole week.

Rugrats didn't really hit its stride until around season 3 or 4 anyway in my opinion. The early episodes were a little rough around the edges, the animation and the writing both. So you probably got one of the better seasons on that tape. I'd check the back of the VHS case to see if it lists the episode titles, that way you can track down more from that era if you want to keep the streak going. Just be ready for some duds if you go any earlier.

Wait, 1998? Rugrats was already like, what, season 4 or 5 by then? That's definitely not the very first episodes from 1991. But hey, your kid still laughed, so who cares. My nephew watched a Tom and Jerry from the 40s and didn't blink at the black and white, so kids are just weird sometimes.

lol yeah I feel that, kids really don't care about the technical stuff as long as it's funny or visually interesting. My niece sat through a whole episode of some old Looney Tunes from the 50s and was completely locked in even though the animation looked totally different from what she usually watches. It's kinda wild how they just accept whatever you put in front of them, no questions asked. Honestly that Rugrats season thing is just us adults getting caught up in the details while the kid is just having a good time. Glad your nephew didn't get thrown off by the black and white though, that would've been a bummer if he was like "ew what is this.
