I always thought Doug's nose was normal, then my cousin pointed at the TV and I felt dumb
I watched Doug on Nickelodeon for basically all of 1993 and 1994 and I truly never noticed his nose was drawn as a giant lumpy blob until my cousin Dana stayed over in August of 1994 and asked why the main guy looked like that. I sat there arguing with her for a solid 10 minutes because in my head he just had a face. She rewound the tape, paused it on his profile, and pointed at the screen with a carrot stick still in her hand. I felt like the biggest idiot in Ohio. So here is my real debate for you all: does your brain just auto-correct stuff like that while you watch, or was I the only kid who missed it because I was too busy waiting for the Beets songs? Part of me thinks shows like Doug and Rugrats counted on kids not paying that close attention, and part of me thinks we all noticed and just never talked about it. Which one is it for you, and what is a random design thing in a 90s cartoon that someone else had to point out before you finally saw it?
Oh come on, it's a cartoon nose, not a life crisis. Kids zone out during shows all the time, that does not mean the animators were playing some trick on us.
